headshots.... SO MANY HEADSHOTS!!!

ISO: 800 Aperture: 5.0 Shutter Speed: 1/40 Lens: 17-50mm

ISO: 800 Aperture: 5.0 Shutter Speed: 1/500 Lens: 17-50mm

ISO: 800 Aperture: 5.0 Shutter Speed: 1/25 Lens: 17-50mm

So this period, pretty much our whole priority was to get headshots of people for the cover of the yearbook. This sounds like a simple task, and for the most part it is. However, it takes forever because the room number that you are given half the time end out being the wrong ones and then you have to go back to the front office over and over and over again to get the class rooms the kids are in. Then, once you get to the room, some of the teachers won't let you take the pictures. So, as one can see, what should be an easy assignment sometimes can end up being rather difficult.

Basketball!!

ISO: 1000 Aperture: 4.0 Shutter Speed: 1/250 Lens: 70-200mm

ISO: 1000 Aperture: 5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/250 Lens: 70-200mm

These are pictures that I took at the Texas High's girls JV game against Marshal. I learned a lot about lighting and how you set it up in the gym so that it reflects off the ceiling and goes down onto the players. The problem that I had though was that my pictures were still about a stop to a stop and a half underexposed. I think this is because of my aperture. The other thing that I would change is to not use a 70-200 lens. I had used it for volleyball and so I figured it would work for basketball, but I was wrong. I really enjoyed taking pictures of basketball, and I hope to get to shoot it again a lot more during the season.

Leaves!! :DD

ISO: 400 Aperture: 5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/250 Lens: 17-50mm

ISO: 100 Aperture: 10 Shutter Speed: 1/250 Lens: 17-50mm

Today during class I just felt like going and taking pictures... So I did!! It was super fun! Me, Haley, and Caroline had a blast! The only real difficulty that I had was taking the second picture because the sun kept coming in and out. It was IRRITATING!!! Taking the first picture was fun as well because Haley got all up in the leaves and it was super funny!! I liked taking pictures outside cause its fall and all the leaves were all pretty and the colors were all rich and deep.

Cupcakes!!

ISO: 800 Aperture: 3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/100 Lens: 17-50mm

ISO: 800 Aperture: 3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/100 Lens: 17-50mm

Today I had an assignment to take pictures of students decorating cupcakes in Mrs. Platt's room. The most difficult part for me was getting all up in everybody's grill to get the pictures that I wanted. However, once they kind of forgot that I was there it made it a lot easier. The only problem that I ran into was that halfway through taking pictures my flash battery went out. Other than that taking these pictures wasn't that bad at all!!

Word of Wisdom!!

So today during class we had a skype session with Morgan Walker, a former commercial photography student from Texas High. I found what she had to say very interesting because of how much different photography is when you actually choose it for your job. She really put into perspective how time consuming photography is when you are a photo journalist or working for a newspaper. When it is your job, photography has to be your number one priority and a lot of the times you don't even get credit or a reward for your hard work. I mean, the pictures you take could end up being in somebody else's trash the next day. I also learned that the photography industry is very small and everybody knows everybody. Therefore, it is necessary to start networking and doing internships even if that particular internship isn't the most fun or the best out there. You have to start small and work your way up the "food chain." Another difficult aspect of photography is that because the industry is so small, if you mess up everybody knows about it and that could potentially keep you from getting a job some day. I found listening to what Morgan had to say very interesting and beneficial to someone like me who really has no idea what they want to do when they grow up.

FAILURE!!

ISO: 640 Aperture: 4.0 Shutter Speed: 1/250 Lens: 17-50mm

This picture is kind of a fail. For one, it is underexposed. Second of all, if you look at the reflection in the door I am in the picture. Third of all the picture is not centered and the sign is cut off. Overall this picture is just BAD. I'll have to make sure to watch out for reflective surfaces when taking pictures.

Robot! (October 6)

ISO: 100 Aperture: 2.8 Shutter Speed: 1/6400 Lens: 17-50mm

This is a picture that I took during class today. I was looking on flikr to find a picture to take for my blog and I found one similar to the one I took and I thought it was kind of cute! The hardest part of taking this picture to me was getting the little paper robot to stand up because the wind was blowing. At one point I was chasing across the field for the little piece of paper. Other than that this picture was pretty fun to take.

2nd Six Weeks Project

ISO: 100 Aperture: 14.0 Shutter Speed: 1/250 Lens: macro

This was the first picture that I took for my six weeks project. One of the things that I had to work on the most was getting close to the same angle that the book cover had. The other difficult part of it was cracking the egg (see egg videos above). In order to get the soft shadows I used the brolly box umbrella. In the picture that I took I feel like I might have been zoomed in bit too much and inside the cracks of the egg in my picture it's a lot darker than the one in to book. I wish that my eggs had been in a cardboard carton just because in the book cover the carton gives a lot of texture to the picture and I'm missing that in my picture.

ISO: 100 Aperture: 9.0 Shutter Speed: 1/250 Lens: macro

This was the second picture I took for my six weeks project. When I saw this book cover I thought it was really cool first of all just because the fork was all bendy. I was really excited to take this picture because it was the first time I got to use a gel!!! I like them a lot!! The problem that I had with taking this picture was getting the shadows on the fork in the right place because my fork was all reflecty. Another thing about my picture was that I couldn't get my fork to be the same bended shape as the one in the book cover. Overall taking this picture was fun because it was something that I had never done before and it was different.
